Book Response: Chapter 10

The chapter begins by displaying different posters that embedded typography in unique ways. One of the posters that caught my attention immediately was the labyrinth poster. The designer explored the orientation and perspective of the letters to create a dynamic poster. The way that the typography was laid out in the poster also spoke in the same language as the imagery. All of the posters that were exhibited in the chapter demonstrated the close relationship imagery has with type. The posters clearly showed that the typography was given special attention, rather than just an afterthought. One of the biggest principles I learned this past semester was finding new ways in combining both type and imagery in a graceful way. By using things like a grid, it allows me to find more ways to integrate type within my image-heavy prints. Another poster that I enjoyed looking at in the chapter was the Farmers’ Market posters. The integration of typography and imagery is clearly shown in these series of posters. I specifically like the way he integrated images like tomatoes into the typography. The color usage in the poster series is also very eye-catching. Color is another topic that I have been trying to push this semester. Since I know it is one of my weaker points in my designs, I have been trying to expand my color palettes and integrate them into my designs.
